Day 3 - Mendelssohn Bartholdy Park

Wow, today I'm actually writing this on the same day I did it, I should get a prize or something!

Either way, though, today I actually only wanted to do a little trip because it's still pretty hot but I ended up taking up just as long as I usually do mainly because- you possibly guess it- I got kinda lost at one point.

But anyway, today I went to the Mendelssohn-Bartholdy-Park which I had already been to before and not had that wonderful memories of, but I went again anyway - for science! Or whatever you call crazy-insane-obsession with Mendelssohn...

First though, I happened to go over the Potsdamer Platz annnnd why hello there, Leipziger Straße 3!

After that though I really did go to the Mendelssohn-Bartholdy-Park:

This is possibly one of the two only good shots you can get of the station right now, since the rest of it is kind of covered and stuff, repairs I guess. This is Berlin, one doesn't actually need a reason to cover stuff up.

The actual park is pretty dull and pretty not pretty, though they have sprinklers which amused me for whatever reason

and they also have a playground that people over 15 aren't allowed to play on.

There's also a rock with Felix and his signature on it

As you can see, though, there's graffiti on it and really, what does one expect when you put a rock in a little park. Come on Berlin, really.

The very talented and amazing Amy made this picture of Karl Klingemann and Felix based on a conversation we had about it that was simply too awesome not to post along with it:

Karl's right, only a loser dorkface could do something like that. >:c

Annnyway, there also was more to the park, and I think there's supposed to be a bust of him somewhere near by (my sense of direction is pretty poor, I think we covered that already, and I decided not to try and find it after I ended up getting lost) but yeah, that's pretty much it.

Berlin is somewhat of a... Loser dorkface when it comes to Felix, though, both in his time and now. Felix kinda hated Berlin, apparently going as far as to say "The first step out of Berlin is the first step towards happiness"... Which, in retrospect, could possibly be why he doesn't have a street here in Berlin or something like that. It was a bit of a mutual thing, there, although very late in his life he somewhat softened towards Berlin a bit. He liked being with his family and visiting when he wasn't forced to do so.

Someone who does have a street though, is Fanny, and it's actually a pretty decent little path near by the park

The street sign even mentions her birth name and date and that she was a composer and pianist(something that I found missing in and around the Mendelssohn Bartholdy park- if I somehow missed something there feel free to make me feel like a jerk for it, I'd be very happy to be wrong). So yeah, there's that.

After that I went to the Anhalter Bahnhof, which Felix may or may not have at one point used to get to Berlin from Leipzig. I think I read somewhere he did, but I'm not sure...

The station was destroyed and all that's left of it is this part which was made after Felix's death anyway- I do believe, I really don't know I could be making stuff up, sorry if I am. =P
Either way though, it looks neat anyway so there.

Today the station looks more like this, though (it's underground)

And yes, that was all today. I'm going to Leipzig on Sunday, so that'll make up for this. Might also go to a museum here before hand to escape the heat but still get something to do... ANYWAY, more on that next time!
